HAS ANYONE PUT THE NEW HAND BRAKE ON A 06 CAR YET? IF SO DID YOU CUT THE PLUNGER OFF AT THE TOP AND RE-DRILL THE HOLE?
TRIED TO PUT 2 IN TONIGHT AND THEY HIT THE UPER CABLE MOUNT. IS IT OK TO TO CUT THE PLUNGER DOWN AND DRILL A NEW HOLE?

You need to contact Akron. They did not give anyone the plunger or hardware with the new brake

I still wanna know where this piece was 10 years ago. I would have fit in an unbelievably small car for someone who was 5' 10" with a size 10 shoe.

The problem is the cable keeper is welded on the wrong side of the bracket. It needs to be on the front side - otherwise the cable will rub on it. I found this out in Saginaw from someone who had input in the development of this brake. I'm not sure if the AA is aware of this problem. I'm concerned that if these are installed improperly the cable could become frayed and possibly break. The AA is supposed to send out installation instructions but I haven't seen any yet.

Maybe if they did a little searching for vendors on these parts they could reduce the number of 'error's, such as the cable keeper being on the wrong side, to 'zero'... tongue.gif

thats pretty funny....

dry.gif This hand brake has several issues. The two mentioned above plus
the hight of the steering handle itself is higher than the standard one. a knuckle buster. especialy at the ends it is also wider than the standard so it is really tight out at the ends. I have to wonder if this was put into an 06 and tested before manufacture or is it a manufacture error or both.
the reason I wonder is was it tested with the brakepad recessed into the floorboard or was it tested with a stock and superstock install hanging below the floorboard. because the extra length you loose by not recessing is about how much is needed to drop it to make it clear correctly. I am also wondering this because that is how it was demoed at the AA. I have some pictures of it and it is different from the one s they were selling. it did not have a clearance problem. and yes the cable keeper is on the front side of the bracket. I am planning to call AA tommorow I will let you know what they tell me.

Taught em what they know but i didn't teach em everything I know. Besides that Vern invented this for Justin Yoder. If they would like correct dimensions they could give him a call.

well no Justin Yoder had a hand brake not a stearing wheel brake. (trust me i have seen it before)

This new break idea may not be working right at start but at least the AA is trying something new. Every idea has to start sometime, Mabie the AA will try this out and get different ideas and opinions on the breaking system and its functions and improve overtime. I give them credit, there atleast trying to make it possible for taller kids to be able to race in the masters division and for a longer amount of time so there not just blowing a ton of money away just for one racing season.
