I heard there was a letter going around that said no filler will be allowed on SS shells. Has anyone else heard this??
DEREK
Have not heard. Letter from who?
I have just hear the same thing. This is a bunch of bull, supposedly one of the race family at our local
has wrote to AA's NCB and received a reply " you are not allowed to fill in the seam on any newly purchased SS shells.
It was also brought to my attention that all NCB replies are sent to locals(nationally) for clarifications. I've never heard of either of these things until this week.
How are locals and AA's NCB able to enforce this, it's either all SS shells are allowed to be filled in or none.
From the way I heard it was worded, it says SS cars with floorboards with 08 marked on them were not allowed to fill the seam. I don't think this is right. What if I would have wanted to put a new board under our car, does that mean I have to redo a new shell?? That's not right.
I also think things like this should be put on the Web site for all to see. That was the way it was suppose to be when the stopped mailing out newsletters and went to posting them on-line. But as all you can see the last newsletter was Feburary. Someone is droppinng the ball.
Filler may have commonly been used, but I do not see any reference to its use, either allowed or not, in the rules. Consequently, I did not think it was allowed.
Here is the official AA Answer:
Question: "I have been told that the seam on the Super Stock car, can not be filled with anything to make the side smooth. If it is filled even with primer it is illegal. Is that true and what about the cars that are already painted with this done."
Answer: "Bondo is not permitted to be used on the body seam of the Super Stock car.
You can use a heavy coat of auto body primer.
When the new 2006 Super Stock plans can out we eliminated the bondo in the seam. We are not making people with painted cars remove the bondo."
We have a super stock that was loaned to us for my son when he goes into that class.
however, you bring something up that I had thought about doing, after talking with some who mention filling or smoothing the sides where the seem is / side mark along the side of the body of the shell.
I have seen nice cars with it done, some who do not do it. I see alot of un painted SS, simply due to the hassle of what it takes to get paint to stick to it.
Keep me posted on this.
Thanks

I have asked this question to the NCB. Here is Akron's answer. Seems pretty clear.
Noclue
You can only use auto body primer to fill the seam on the Super Stock car. No bondo is permitted.
Mark
i have use extra coats of primer over thats seam, and all u do is take ur time and sand it down, and when u put another coat of primer over the body just hit the seam with one more maybe two or three extra passes
