South Charleston, West Virginia held the Region 8 Buccaneer "Champion of Champions" non-points Race on Saturday August 19th. 1st and 2nd place finishers from all of the Region 8 All-American Local Races & Rally Champs were invited to participate in a one day Double elimination race to determine the top racers in the region.
Pat and Dena Taylor hosted the event and did a fabulous job as always. Acting Rally Commissioner Allan Howe and assistant Region 8 director Danny Hughes were present to help run the event along with AA Hall of Famer Bruce Hunsicker Sr. and a host of other Region 8 officials & volunteers.
On Sunday August 20th an open rally was held for all who wished to race. The temperature was as hot as the racing and the ever changing West Virginia weather lived up to its reputation both days as rain forced some of the final rounds to be shortened. Considering a forecast that called for rain all weekend Pat was grateful the races progressed as far as they did, "If we just had another half an hour we would have been ok".

I personally would like to thank Pat and Dena for the job they do every year with this race. They put on a great race and make it fun for all. All of the vollunteers that come down to help I thank you also. I am sure I will miss a few of the names of people so sorry from the start. Allan Howe, Danny Hughes, Lane Manning, Barb, and Bob Sovil, Jerry, Charley, Bruce Sr., Beth, Shawn, Mrs. Thorton, all of the parents, and even the kids. Everybody had a helping hand in making this a great race. I do wish that the rain would of held off another half an hour also Mr. Thorton. And Pat and his board I think you guys made a fair and great decision on how you went about giving first and second. Thanks again for an enjoyable day and we hope to either be a rally champ or local champ again next year so we can enjoy this great race again.
