Are these 12v only or can they be converted to 110. If only 12v would a charger keep a constant current to hold the cars .

Thanks Kirby

Kirby,
The electromagnets are designed for door locking mechanisms. They only work on 12 or 24 volts and draw milliamps. If you want to run them on 110volts you can get a 110v to 12volt transformer. A battery charger would not work.

I can always understand when we are trying to save a dollar especially when most are involved in non-profit derby organizations.

But, when a manufacturer sets a price as to a product, don't start asking if they can change things to suite you. Do that on a local level, or pay the OEM what the extra cost would be to make changes to suit your specific needs. Also, you guys have really big b---- to ask what his costs were. In my way of thinking, that was crossing the line.

I have been a furniture maker for 30 plus years, mostly custom, and no one has ever asked what my cost was. Ever asked that question at one of your local retail outlets? enough said, just kinda bugged me.

Thanks bandanaman that is exactly how I feel. That is also why I hardly ever build new products for this sport. In other forms of racing I do not get these issues. I'm currently working on a deal to build for American Racing Wheels. They bought Weld racing and I'm gonna be building all the centers and beadlocks for NHRA,Sprint cars , Midgets and micro's. This is a huge deal for my company that we all are excited about. Why we are able to get this is HIGH QUALITY!! Something China cannot deliver. This is the big one for us and we are very grateful.

So that would be a NO on selling them cheaper? LOL! Sorry, I had to do that. Derek, you are so helpful to so many of us that it is easy to forget that you are trying to run a profitable business. I can not imagine that there is a whole lot of money to be made trying to sell Soap Box Derby parts and such. You have to love the sport and the kids or you would spend your time and money on other things. I for one am thankful for your time, effort, and this website.

Thanks Fritz.......I'm so busy with business these days I find it hard to help other people because I need to put time into my daughter's car. I am currently ending all clinic's for that reason. I will continue to support NDR but I cannot continue how it has been in the past. I had a great time helping everyone but its time to become a competitor again. We as a family have goals we would like to achieve and will be putting all our efforts in that direction.

These ramps are making me ill. I recieved this email from Ken Tomasello today. My reply to him was not very nice. He deserves credit for HIS napkin drawing and I wish I had made it clear.
Derek,

A few days ago I saw the pictures of the new portable ramps that you
posted on your web site. They look awesome pretty much exactly what I
designed for you. Obviously you made a few modifications but the basic
design is mine. I must say that I am very disappointed that you have
taken total credit for the design and building of the ramps and not even
mentioned my name. Could you have designed them, yes, but you didn't, I
did.

I am also disappointed that you gave undeserved credit to Jim Hagan for
the magnets. All he did was find a place to buy the magnets, which, oh
by the way, were paid for by the NDR and me (1/2 each). If you want to
give credit for the idea of the magnets it has to go to the people from
Martinsburg, West Virginia. They are actually the first ones who used
the magnets for a starting ramp. The reason that our (DC/me and
Frederick/Jim Hagan) ramps (we share the ramps because we shared in the
expense, Jim Hagan stores them for us) use the magnets is because I
suggested it. The magnet idea should not be given to Jim Hagan.

I will have to remember this episode in my future dealings with you.

Ken

Caveman wants credit

fritz kysar- 04-05-2008

I think what Tomasello did was a stand up thing to do. Ken had a problem with Derek and he went to Derek and told him. It would have been easier for Ken to silently hold a grudge. Way to go Ken

Derek,
Our local is looking to get away from the tail weight ramp issue, plus our ramps are old and need repair or replacing and heard you have ramps for sale. What would be the time frame you would need from ordering to delivery if I can get the board to go in this direction? I will motion it to the board tonight and see if I can get the ball rolling. Thanks for all your efforts for the derby.

Thanks again,
Ken
