I am relatively new to derby racing, and was wondering which was faster the old style hand sticked cars or the fiberglass wrapped scottie cars? And by how much? Is there a good web page to look at the past hand sticked cars? Thanks Bernhard

my guess
with all the stick cars being used in ultimate speed
the new way aint faster

There are over 9000 posts on this message board. If you look for topics with pics you will find extensive stick car pics in here. I know that all my cars are somewhere in this message board. Good luck.

when the wrapped scottie first came out sticks were required to remove 2 1/4" ( I believe) of air foil in order to make the scottie competitive

I guess it would all depend on who built the car!
who rushed through the build.
who took their time and finessed the build.

I hear you asking two very different questions.

First, is it easier to build a stick car or a Scottie car? I would say a stick car is easier and that is because building a Scottie car has to be done 100% on the outside. That means your work has to be perfect and clean. You can not make a mistake and then fix it with a little more glass or filler added inside the car. You are also very limited on what you can do to make someone elses shell work in the areas of the hatch and headrest. Building a really fast Scottie car requires thinking outside the box and creativity. Building a really fast stick car can be achieved many different ways.

Secondly, is it easier to build a stick car or your own glass shell Ultimate car? I again would say a stick car is easier. Building a good mold for a shell is a science that few derby people are capable of properly pulling off.

I give this opinion based on having now built many stick cars, two Scottie glass wrapped cars, a Scottie flat bottom car and now a ZE glass shell sit-up car.
