Take an old axle and put a mark on the top and the bottom, this is going to be your future reference for zeroing out your gauge. Support the axle on a crate or a toolbox with one of the marks on the top. Take your reading, flip the axle 180 degrees and take the next reading. Both of these readings should be zero. Once they both read zero, the spindle is in the center of the axle and you have a reference for your other axles. It's going to take a little bending and a little patience to get thru this step. Once your gauge reads zero on both the top and the bottom of the axle, now you can measure your spindles and get an accurate reading. Put the straight axle in a tube to protect it for next time and you’re done.
Hope this helps
Very well explained.
